(May 9, 2025) – Champions for Nature Conservation-Liberia (CNC-L) held a one-day training and guided nature tour for secondary school students from Monrovia. The training focused on two topics:
1) Nature conservation and its importance to sustainable development and, 2) The impact of climate change on socio-economic development. The event took place at the CNC-L Conservation Education Center in Gomosu, Bensonville, Liberia.

The training brought together over 50 students from four Schools, (World of Life International, Hillbon Memory Institute, JET- Evangelical Lutheran High School, and Alexander A. Sesay Academy).

The workshop, which is part of the Youth Engagement and Capacity Building Program at CNC-L, aimed to establish nature clubs, develop eco-schools, and organize guided nature tours and field trips among participating institutions to promote environmental stewardship. The program also offers internship and volunteer opportunities for students, researchers, and volunteers, while educating young people about nature-based conservation and preparing them to be responsible stewards of the environment.

After the indoor presentation, students were guided by a nature tour in the CNC-L research forest, where they learned about various plants, including their scientific and native names, and their uses. The session was led by CNC-L Conservation Education Officer, Anthony Koigbli,, who is also an instructor at the University of Liberia’s Forestry Department.

Other facilitators included CNC-L Chief Executive Officer Moses A. Massah and Dickarmien Alvis Deemie, head of the Science and Conservation Department at the Society for the Conservation of Nature Liberia.
