Yesterday, October 10, 2025, the Champions for Nature Conservation Liberia held a project briefing meeting with Dr. Layli Maparyan, President of the University of Liberia, to update her on the Feasibility Study project and to seek her support for the establishment of a botanical garden at the University of Liberia’s Fendell Campus.
The meeting took place in the office of the president at Fendell campus and brought together representatives from the Department of General Forestry at the University of Liberia.
Champions for Nature Conservation-Liberia, Executive Director, Moses Akoi Massah, briefed the president on the progress of the project implementation activities, the management arrangements for the proposed botanical garden, and the strategic ways for mobilization to generate funds needed to establish the botanical garden.
During the meeting, the University of Liberia president, Dr. Layli Maparyan disclosed that the Feasibility Study project is one of her passion projects, and she hopes to be informed about all developments related to the establishment of the botanical garden.
” The environmental, ecological, and conservation aspects of the University of Liberia campus are very important to me and my administration,” Dr. Maparyan stated. She emphasized that being knowledgeable about every activity associated with the project will be essential because she cares deeply about its matters.
The president also stated that significant infrastructure development will be undertaken concurrently, which will positively impact various communities and Universities in different ways. She recommended the the botanical garden include features to showcase both Flora and Fauna, aiming to attract potential investors. Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of ensuring disability inclusion so individuals with various disabilities can access the botanical garden.
In conclusion, Dr. Maparyan pledged her support to work closely with the Champions for Nature Conservation-Liberia(CNC-L), and other national and international partners for the establishment of the botanical garden at the UL Fendell Campus.
